Debt purchasers

Debt purchasers

"Jim Taylor heads up the unsecured lending and recoveries unit, handling litigation arising under consumer credit legislation. Clients consistently praise the team's 'top service levels'."

The Legal 500

Our unsecured lending litigation and recoveries team works with a number of debt purchasers dealing with recovery of unsecured lending products, including loans, credit cards, overdrafts and guarantees.

We also deal with some smaller portfolios of telecoms and utility debt.

We recognise that debt purchasers can and do take a different approach to original lenders when seeking recovery of purchased debts. Data and analysis of that data is of utmost importance to debt purchasers, and we work hard to ensure our systems provide you with the widest range of data available, either in raw form or through bespoke management information reports.

We work with you to use that data to identify accounts most appropriate for litigation and the most appropriate enforcement methods.

Our approach remains to engage with customers and seek settlement, or to set up affordable and sustainable payment arrangements that avoid the need for litigation.

We use all appropriate methods of communication, including letter suites, telephony, SMS and email to achieve contact with customers, also providing them with an online channel to engage with us.

Where we are not able to achieve settlement or a payment arrangement, we use the county court bulk centre to issue claims and progress matters to judgment and enforcement.

Throughout the litigation process, we continue to interweave proactive telephony, and other communication methods to seek engagement with customers. The aim is to maximise your recoveries at minimum cost, whilst always protecting your reputation.

We have the expertise and experience to deal with disputed and complex claims, with our defended teams sitting alongside our recoveries teams, able to provide immediate advice, often preventing escalation of a matter to a full blown defence.

We are very aware of the regulatory climate within which we and clients operate, and all our staff are fully trained and monitored to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.

We have a dedicated compliance team that oversees and monitors our training, competence and compliance framework, and which can provide suitable MI, including TCF dashboards to support clients' own regulatory requirements.
