Our specialist team regularly advises clients from across the world on their international dispute resolution and litigation matters.
The complex market in which businesses now operate makes disputes between parties in different jurisdictions inevitable. The successful resolution of a dispute requires a dedicated and experienced team with a wide range of legal skills combined with a commercial focus. Our litigation lawyers understand that disputes often can be time consuming, costly and a distraction from the core task of running a business but are often unavoidable or strategically necessary.
We regularly advise clients across the world on litigation matters and act in proceedings in the Courts in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We recognise that the legal process in these jurisdictions may be very different to the systems that international clients are familiar with, so we provide straightforward guidance throughout each matter. Our international team includes individuals who are dual qualified in various key jurisdictions and who have worked internationally for significant parts of their career.
In addition, our network of strategic relationships with law firms across the world enables us to provide continuity of advice for our global clients and advise on cross-border matters. We regularly co-counsel with partner firms in the World Services Group or with our client’s preferred advisers.
Our recent international disputes work includes:
- Acting for a US client on a claim valued at more than $40 million arising from the acquisition of international business group;
- Successfully defending Opel Automotive from a $19 million multi-jurisdictional contractual claim in a two week trial in the Commercial Court;
- Acting for a global car manufacturer in its €32 million claim against a tier 1 supplier that led to High Court litigation and multijurisdictional disputes include injunctive relief procured in a European state in support;
- Defending a global car manufacturer in respect of a £50 million claim arising from the closure of one of its joint venture global manufacturing plants.
