Powerful capabilities, not clichés
Bored of the same old stock images of AI? Human-like robots overlaid with layers of blue neon, ‘thinking’ in an enigmatic manner?
At Shoosmiths, we look past these overworked stereotypes. We’ve been working with AI for years and know a thing or two about what responsible AI can do in the real world, not in the world of clichés.
Our experience matters
Take our contract review solution Cia®.
Launched in 2021, it has helped businesses such as Next and Deliveroo save up to a typical three to five hours of contract review time on many of their day-to-day contracts—an 80% saving as against typical external legal cost.

With Cia®, we’ve also worked with in-house legal teams to develop AI-powered solutions to solve their most pressing challenges.
Take one client who needed to analyse over 150 large contracts for key terms urgently. Without AI, it would have needed four lawyers working full-time for several months. With Cia®, it took a fraction of the time. The result? The in-house team saved significant resources and could focus instead on vital revenue-generating activities.
With each contract integrated into the Cia® platform, our client could also interrogate their contract portfolio further. Cia® facilitated the asking of additional questions, extracting valuable insights. AI-powered added value at no additional cost.
But, for us, technology like Cia® is only the start.
Generative AI is the next step on our AI journey, and we’re already getting stuck in. We were, for example, one of a select group of law firms globally to pilot Microsoft’s new genAI assistant, Copilot. We are currently trialling other exciting genAI tools too.
Our focus: you
There’s a lot of talk about AI—too much, some might say. So in a world of increasing complexity, we like to keep things simple: at Shoosmiths, using AI means just one thing:
We can focus more than ever on what matters to you
That’s it.
This means the more AI powers through day-to-day work, the more we can get to know you, your business and your industry.
The more we can become an extension of your team: helping you to avoid problems before they become just that.
The more we can help you do the things that matter to you in ways we can scarcely imagine now.
Where we are now on generative AI
Through our experience with AI, we also know how vital it is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of genAI too. That’s why with every new genAI tool, we assess our approach carefully before applying it in our work.
Of course, this is a fast-evolving area. Like other technology we have harnessed over the years, it will empower us to be smarter, faster and better in what we do. To deliver the results you need and to focus on what matters to you.
In particular, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and similar tools, have been integrated directly into our Microsoft 365 environment to help streamline workflows and boost productivity and turnaround times for your benefit.
GenAI is turbocharging the Shoosmiths client experience too. At Shoosmiths great service is not only about meeting your expectations, but exceeding them, without compromising on quality or security.
Like all businesses, we’re just starting our gen AI journey. But unlike most businesses, we’ve been developing AI solutions for years. We give you the AI-powered edge you need in an increasingly competitive world.
Investment in AI
Our strategic and proactive investment in AI has one goal: to focus more than ever on what matters to you, supporting your evolving needs by bringing you the most innovative solutions. This technology augments our specialist expertise, enhances the value we give to you, and empowers our experts to deliver our services efficiently and accurately.
The continued exploration and adoption of these technologies is part of our continued commitment to service excellence.
Our AI policy
Our comprehensive AI policy is designed to give you the peace of mind that you need on how we use AI at Shoosmiths.
To this end, we are committed to, in particular:
- adhering to any relevant ethical guidance governing the usage of AI technology
- complying with data protection laws and, in particular, the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability
- promoting the responsible use of AI technology
- regularly evaluating our AI usage and identifying any emerging risks, and
- undertaking periodic reviews of our AI related policies and procedures as necessary to reflect any changes in the law or practice.
As you’d expect, we always check and validate the output of AI tools that we use with the utmost care. For specific AI solutions, such as Cia, we ensure that these are strictly trialled and tested. And we don’t use AI to replace our expert’s legal knowledge. Our goal? To deliver advice from our lawyers that you can trust.
