Shoosmiths takes a seat at Coalition for the Decarbonisation of Road Transport’s table

In May 2021, Stephen Dawson was asked to take a place on the Green Finance Institute’s Coalition for the Decarbonisation of Road Transport.

Considered to be the UK’s principal interface between public and private sectors, the Coalition is supported by HM Treasury, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the City of London Corporation with the aim of identifying government policy, technology and financial pathways enabling the UK’s transition to a green economy.

Stephen’s role sees him join global experts from the finance, automotive and energy sectors to develop the market for financing zero-emission vehicles and associated infrastructure in the UK.

Stephen commented: “I really am pleased to be part of this high-profile initiative. This enables us to use our experience and expertise to visibly contribute to government policy debate and development at the highest level.

“In addition, the aims of this coalition very much match the steps being taken by Shoosmiths to show that we can be the UK's leading law firm but in a way that contributes to the green economy, having launched our own carbon neutral and net zero targets.”

The coalition focuses on bringing demonstration projects to market to test, establish and scale the finance solutions needed to stimulate further innovation and investment across the UK.

In its mission statement, the CDRT states: “The timely decarbonisation of road transport will be dependent on successful partnerships across the finance and transport sectors to deliver the required financial solutions at scale and speed.”
