Cabinet Office publishes Procurement Act guidance

On 26 March, the Cabinet Office published the first set in a suite of guidance documents for the Procurement Act.

The guidance document cover:

  • the definition of Contracting Authority;
  • the definition of Covered Procurement;
  • Valuation of Contracts;
  • Mixed Procurement;
  • Exempted Contracts; and
  • Thresholds.

Each guidance document clearly sets out the key points and the policy intent in respect of these discrete parts of the Procurement Act. Of immediate note, the thresholds will be aligned to those GPA thresholds which were updated on 1 January 2024, and there is a wide discretion for contracting authorities not to aggregate when they have cause not to do so for the purpose of valuing contracts.
