Milestone reached in the aviation industry’s move towards net zero

Following a successful ground testing campaign, the UK's Civil Aviation Authority has granted a permit to fly for ZeroAvia’s 19-seat Dornier 228 aircraft, retrofitted with its prototype hydrogen-electric powertrain engine.

This has been described as a milestone in ZeroAvia’s mission to replace conventional aircraft engines with hydrogen-electric engines - supporting the aviation industry's move towards a zero-emission future.

As a result, ZeroAvia can now begin the first test flights of this aircraft and it is envisioned that this could pave the way for the first commercially certifiable aircraft fitted with this prototype engine to commence commercial routes in 2025. With over 1,500 engines already under pre-order, this is a development that will no doubt be of great interest to many within the aviation industry.
