Shoosmiths act for Oddlygood on its acquisition of Rude Health

Law firm Shoosmiths has advised Finnish plant-based food and drink company Oddlygood on its acquisition of Rude Health – a pioneering British plant-based company.

Rude Health is a top five UK plant-based drinks brand and is widely available across major retailers and foodservice operators in the UK. It has also established a name for itself internationally with distribution across a number of key European markets.

The Shoosmiths team was led by corporate partner Aleks Bosch, with support from principal associate Kat Hornsby, senior associates Ella Doshi and Alex Davidson and trainee solicitor Ashleigh Todd. Tax advice was provided by legal director Laura Gould and associate Julia Szerer, alongside incentives support from partner Dan Sharman and associate Carly Cutler.

Shoosmiths corporate partner Aleks Bosch commented: “We’re delighted to have helped another ambitious global company invest in an incredibly exciting UK-based business. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for both parties, with a shared mission to raise the standard of plant-based food and drink globally.”

Niko Vuorenmaa, CEO of Oddlygood, added; ‘’Our ambition is to become one of the leading plant-based companies in the UK and Europe and this acquisition will help accelerate this, but key to its success is the strong alignment between Rude Health and Oddlygood.

Rude Health is one of the biggest success stories in British plant-based food. It’s nothing less than impressive the way the team has grown its product range alongside such a distinctive and well thought of brand to deliver commercial success.

Both Oddlygood and Rude Health have complementary portfolios, target audiences and capabilities which will enable us to grow the business.  What we’ve achieved with Oddlygood in such little time is down to the expertise and passion of our team. We’ll focus the same attention and care to Rude Health and look forward to collaborating with their team. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Shoosmiths which has enabled us to embark on this exciting new chapter.’’

Oddlygood is a key player in the Nordic plant-based market, where in six years it’s grown to an anticipated turnover close to €50m this year and a widely stocked range of plant-based alternatives to milk, cheese, desserts, cooking products and yoghurts.

Corporate is one of Shoosmiths’ key strategic pillars and across its division, the team has bolstered its market leading credentials and reputation for excellence in the mid-market, advising on upwards of 400 transactions a year.
