National law firm Shoosmiths has advised its client Kier Living on the first-stage of its multi-million pound project to deliver homes across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
It is part of a ten-year joint venture between Kier Living, Homes England and Cross Keys Homes. The partnership will deliver up to 5,400 homes across England, but the first four mixed tenure developments have been announced for The Laurels in Tipton; Meadowbank, Newcastle-under-Lyme; The Orchards in Rushwick and Chelmsley Lane, Marston Green.
The joint venture will invest in skills and new innovations including at least three new apprenticeships, with a minimum of 50 per cent of workers employed from the local area.
Real estate partner Bhavesh Amlani - who heads up the residential development team in the Midlands - led the Shoosmiths team on the deal, along with partner Catherine Hood, senior associates Ben Smith and Helen Parrott, and associate Emily Danson.
Bhavesh said: "We get to work on some exciting projects in our team at Shoosmiths and we are very proud to have been a part of this project with Kier Living, which will help to deliver homes to those who need it across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
John Anderson, executive director of Kier Living, described the joint venture as a "milestone" and an innovative industry model. "We are all committed to delivering on our ambition to get more houses built in the areas of greatest need, and we look forward to working with Shoosmiths on the next phase of this ambitious project," he added.
