Shoosmiths is making further strides into the Glasgow market– attracting DWF’s national head of employment, Michael McLaughlin.
Michael’s appointment represents further strategic expansion by the firm in Scotland, as he joins recent recruit banking partner Fiona Cameron and real estate partner Barry McKeown who opened the Glasgow location last year.
Barry McKeown said this was a continued effort by the firm to expand the range of services it can offer via Glasgow, and more partner and senior appointments are to follow.
Barry continues: “We’ve made it clear that we have major ambitions for Glasgow and beyond so we are pleased to welcome such a high-calibre lawyer as Michael to the national employment team, boosting our offering from this location and Scotland generally. Glasgow will play a large part in delivering our growth strategy across the UK given the depth and quality of legal talent we have in the city.”
Janette Speed, head of Shoosmiths in Scotland, said: “Our presence in Glasgow and Scotland in general is continuing to grow. It’s absolutely essential that we hire the right people at this point in the firm’s strategic journey in line with client demand. Michael’s reputation and track record is sure to be a good fit.
“The team we are building in Glasgow will complement and work closely with our existing specialist teams in Edinburgh, and will cement our reputation as a firm able to deliver strength and depth across Scotland alongside an exceptional client experience.”
Paul Stokey, head of Shoosmiths’ employment law team and partner said: “We are delighted that Michael has joined – he is hugely respected, by clients and colleagues alike. I know he was attracted to our vision and dedication in helping our clients improve their business through their employees. Michael will play a key strategic role in our growth - both nationally and in Glasgow.”
Michael joins the firm from DWF where he was its national head of employment. He has worked with many high-profile clients, including a leading UK dairy processor, one of the largest spirit companies in the world, a leading Scottish football club and many more.
