The UK has an ageing population and a shortage of senior-specific housing compared to countries such as Australia and the USA. The retirement living sector continues to expand at a rapid rate, with 7,500 units delivered and a record £1.5bn of institutional investment entering the sector in 2021, and a predicted sector value of over £55bn by 2023.
At the Retirement & Later Life Living Development Conference held in London in April 2023, planning partners Lisa Tye and Stuart Tym presented a Q&A session on the planning and regulatory challenges facing the later living sector, as well as looking at real world legal solutions for navigating the planning obstacles holding the later living sector back.
