Our 1st year trainees have completed their pro bono challenge launched in September 2023.
The trainees have provided support for Manuel Bravo Project in Leeds, the Small Business Advice Line in Birmingham, BPP Enterprise Clinic in Manchester, Citizens Advice in Milton Keynes and CommuniCare in Thames Valley operated with the University of Reading School of Law.
In the London office we have established a pro bono committee as part of our efforts to raise awareness of the difference we can make to vulnerable clients and charities unable to afford to pay for legal advice.
Nicola Ellen, Head of Corporate Responsibility commented ‘the annual pro bono challenge helps us to assist vulnerable clients who cannot afford to pay for legal advice and without assistance are unable or struggle to navigate the legal system. In addition, our trainees have gained skills in a variety of areas of law, in research, analysis and drafting advice. The trainees are also demonstrating empathy with clients.’
Amy Ruff, Emerging Talent Senior Advisor added: ‘All our trainees should be commended for their efforts, but The Thames Valley trainees showed great initiative by encouraging the future trainees to get involved in the CommuniCare project. They recognised the importance of collaboration to make it a success.’
All of which demonstrates very clearly our values as a firm and as individuals. These pro bono services help individuals and organisations who have legal issues and who therefore benefit from our guidance and direction. The trainees have worked closely together as well as with many colleagues across the firm and so by Delivering Together and Focusing on What Matters we are Making a Difference in our local communities.
