On 19 April 2024, the CR Committee in the Leeds office hosted a Coastal Marathon Walk, where 29 employees hiked a gruelling 28 miles along the Cleveland Way from Scarborough to Whitby in support of the Leeds office Charity of the Year – Martin House Children’s Hospice. An ambitious fundraising target of £10,000 was set, which the team absolutely smashed, raising a total of £14,777.45 from the event.
The team tackling the walk encountered tricky conditions on the day, battling 40mph headwinds, mud up to their ankles, blisters and creaking knees. They also had to hike 1.8 miles further than the traditional marathon distance of 26.2 miles, due to coastal erosion altering the route on the day! Despite this, morale remained high throughout, and the team successfully finished the challenge in an impressive 12 hours. They were rewarded at the end with some much needed (and well deserved) fish and chips in Whitby, which didn’t touch the sides!
Martin House Children’s Hospice is a charity which supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across Yorkshire. Its vision is that every child and young person has access to palliative care when and where they need it. The funds raised from the coastal marathon walk have been specifically allocated to helping provide bereavement services, and the total raised will allow Martin House to make a huge difference in the services it can provide.
The event was a huge success, and a great achievement for the Leeds office, bringing everyone together to help a worthy cause. Countless hours of preparation paid off, and the CR Committee, wider Leeds office and Martin House are thrilled with the result of the event.
The CR Committee would like to say a huge thank you to our clients, colleagues, friends and family who supported the coastal marathon walk via donations and encouragement. The event would not have been so successful without their support, and we are so appreciative. We would also like to give a special thanks to all of our volunteers on the day, who were well equipped with blister plasters, energy drinks, and snacks, and provided much needed support along the way.
