Wednesday 28 September 2022 Shoosmiths’s London office hosted the UN Global Compact Network UK, as it launched its new report into how the UK is performing against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDGs provide a powerful aspiration for improving our world – laying out where we collectively need to go and how to get there.
Chairperson Peter Duff welcomed the representatives from the network, the world’s largest responsible business initiative connecting UK companies and other organisations in a global movement dedicated to driving sustainable growth.
The report - Measuring Up 2.0 - warns urgent action is needed to ensure the UK achieves the ambitious commitments it made to end poverty, inequalities, and reduce the risks of climate change and ecological decline.
The report shows the worsening state of many of the SDG goals in the UK, particularly those related to poverty and inequality. It highlights the significant danger of quality of life getting worse in the UK if action is not taken, particularly in light of the energy and cost-of-living crisis and of the increased risks of climate change.
Measuring Up 2.0 is the result of a multi-stakeholder process to show the UK’s current performance against the SDGs, the opportunities and challenges ahead, and top-line recommendations for achieving the SDG Targets. More than 100 organisations and individuals took part, including businesses, charities, academia, and professional associations. Shoosmiths was a sponsor of the report and provided a case study about our approach to menopause in the workplace.
