On 12 February 2020, a team from Shoosmiths was crowned this year’s fastest law firm at the Rotary Club’s RoKart Challenge event which took place at Teamworks Karting in Northampton.
As part of the Go Karting event, Shoosmiths raised £1,000 in aid of two Northamptonshire-based charities, the Alzheimer’s Society and Northants First Responders. The Rotary Club aims to raise £10,000 in aid of these two charitable organisations through a series of Go Kart racing events.
The two-hour endurance racing event drew 8 teams from law firms within Northamptonshire and Shoosmiths was represented by 17 people who were split into 4 teams. Made up of IT experts, lawyers, paralegals, trainee lawyers and business analysts, the Shoosmiths teams drew strength from this diverse pool of professions allowing them to efficiently execute pit-lane changeovers.
The winning team, composed of Chris Northway, David Byles, Emily Ablitt and Richard Willcox, chalked a fast lap of 24.03 seconds on the 400-metre track. The night’s fastest lap of 23.74 seconds was registered by Shoosmiths’ corporate team. The winning team was presented with a trophy.
This was the fifth time that Shoosmiths has taken part in the yearly event that requires each team to change drivers at least 9 times during the race. The event is one of the many ways that the firm collaborates with local charities in addressing areas of need within Northamptonshire.
