The Winston’s Wish team was full of joy to hear recently that as a result of our partnership in 2014/2015 we had been able to raise and donate £74,961.60, well over the original £60,000 target we had set ourselves.
The funding was to support two specially trained practitioners who work directly with bereaved children and their families. The practitioner works with the child and family in the family home over a number of months, helping the child, in particular to understand what has happened, understand what they are feeling and understand all the different emotions that come from grief, anger, frustration, incredible sadness and emptiness. Through being able to talk and share , they start to make sense of what has happened and the charity builds memories with them that will help them in the future keep a connection to the person who has died. Winston’s Wish provides helpful tools and techniques too to enable them to cope and be resilient despite what has happened.
A new member of the team was appointed six months into the partnership with Abby joining the North West team in November 2014. Recruitment is underway now to appoint a second practitioner.
