It was a very cold December morning but the Shoosmiths team from various departments at The Lakes attended Encompass which is a foodbank charity in Rushden.
The well organised ‘distribution centre’ was well stocked and prepared for us to make hampers for those that are facing homelessness, poverty or those dealing with addiction. The charity does a fantastic job to support those in need, especially at Christmas time.
Shoosmiths team: Simon Towler, Sarah Harper, Simone Calvin, Molly Broome, Andrea Rusbridge, Rachel Gammon, Sarah Cunliffe and Denise Broome.
The Shoosmiths group and Encompass volunteers quickly got to work and made 110 Christmas hampers filled with all the essentials for Christmas from tinned vegetables to a few luxuries of a Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and Chocolate!
We then filled our cars, which was more of a challenge when you have small car! Nether the less, with good spirits we set off to deliver as many hampers as we could.
From the residents of Rushden that I spoke to, they were surprised and grateful for their hampers. One story remains with me, from a lady who had fallen on difficult times from just needing to visit the dentist and facing a large dentist bill had forced her to seek help from the charity. Sometimes it’s just a small, unexpected bill which can be the difference from eating and not eating, for those living in poverty.
Shoosmiths have further supported this charity this month with a donation which will go towards more food bank donations.
Encompass are also creating a warm day centre for the people of Rushden to go somewhere warm and get a hot meal.
