Alison is a Corporate Partner and Head of the firm’s Edinburgh office. She has extensive experience advising on a wide range of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, MBOs, investments, disposals and joint ventures. She also has significant experience advising on shareholder arrangements, group reorganisations and corporate governance matters.

Alison acts for clients across a wide range of sectors and has developed particular expertise working with businesses in the healthcare, technology, transport and media sectors.

Her transactional experience includes advising:
  • Extreme E, an international electric motor racing series which will be launching the first ever hydrogen championship (to be known as Extreme H) in 2025, on all corporate matters from its inception including investments from a range of international investors and strategic corporate advice;
  • National commercial vehicle hire business MV Commercial Limited on all of its M&A activity and other corporate advisory matters;
  • Sandbox International on edtech acquisitions in Brazil, Spain and the US and on a range of UK corporate law matters and fundraisings;
  • Electric Sea Racing Limited on the launch of the world's first electric powerboat racing championship (the "E1 Series") and its investment from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF);
  • UK based digital tech business Engine B from its inception, through various funding rounds, and ultimately advising its shareholders on their exit via the sale of Engine B to US accountancy firm CLA in 2024;
  • Carewatch Care Services Limited on a series of acquisitions in Scotland, England and Wales and then on the sale of various divisions in a complex transaction that required the completion of 6 transactions within 4 weeks.

Alison has been with Shoosmiths as head of its corporate practice in Scotland since 2013.  She is also head of Shoosmiths’ Edinburgh office and fulfils a key role in driving the growth of the firm in Scotland.

In 2024 Alison was short-listed for Corporate Lawyer of the Year at the Legal 500 Scotland Awards and her team was shortlisted for Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the Scotland Dealmakers Awards
