Leigh Smith is a Partner in the Intellectual Property team based in the firm's London office. His practice encompasses a broad range of intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on brand-related matters. He has considerable experience of advising on all aspects of the creation, exploitation, and enforcement of trade marks and related rights.

He acts for clients in a diverse range of industries, including consumer goods and retail, technology, and private equity. He represents clients before the UKIPO and the English courts. He also has significant experience of advising on the intellectual property aspects of transactions. 

Leigh's recent work highlights include:
• advising a number of well-known alcohol brands on marketing campaigns and sponsorship agreements in the United Kingdom
• advising a licensee on a wide range of intellectual property licences of iconic entertainment brands to develop entertainment complexes and attractions
• managing the global trade mark portfolio of a premium skincare brand
• successfully defending an application for a preliminary injunction based on passing off for a start-up alcohol brand.

Leigh is an active member of the International Trademark Association, chairing a sub-committee within the Brand Restrictions Committee. He also regularly contributes articles to publications such as World Trademark Report and Entertainment Law Review. He is included in the WTR 1000 as a leading trade mark professional.

Leigh joined Shoosmiths in 2025 from a US firm, which he joined as a partner from a magic circle firm.
