Michael is a professional support lawyer in the real estate group with particular responsibility for the development of precedents. He has nearly 20 years’ experience of drafting precedents, training, providing current awareness updates and providing detailed legal advice on complex legal issues. He has particular interests in document assembly, information technology, stamp duty land tax and the impact of residential tenancy legislation on mixed-use developments. Michael is a member of the working group that devised and now maintains the Model Commercial Lease (MCL).
Michael joined Shoosmiths in January 2016 after 16½ years as a professional support lawyer at Eversheds. He was previously a professional support lawyer at Simmons & Simmons and trained and qualified as a lawyer at Rowe & Maw (now Mayer Brown). In addition to his legal skills, Michael is a cryptic crossword setter for the Independent, Independent on Sunday and the Church Times. He is also an ordained minister in the Church of England.
